Full Stack Developer
👋 We are Kilter, and we’re on a mission to transform sustainable agriculture and food production by harnessing the power of technology. With a growing population and a diet increasingly shifting towards plant-based foods, innovative solutions are required. We need to grow more food on less land while protecting nature and the environment.
Kilter develops groundbreaking technology that addresses major challenges for farmers in a sustainable way. Our fully automated agricultural robot, Kilter AX-1, represents a paradigm shift in weed control. Using advanced AI and patented nozzle technology, AX-1 precisely targets weeds without harming crops or soil. This reduces herbicide use by up to 95% and increases crop yield by up to 35%.
🚀About the role
You will work on Kilter Farm, the platform that brings together the data our machines produce, the insight our customers draw from it, and the fleet management that keeps everything running. It is a TypeScript monorepo on Bun: a React web app for growers and fleet operations, the services that take in images and telemetry from machines in the field, and the Postgres database underneath it all.
It is a small team, so you will work across the whole of it rather than one slice, and you will see the results of your work driving around a field.
đź’»What will you do?
Build features end to end, from the database schema to the screen a grower actually uses.
Develop the web app our customers and our own operations team run the fleet from.
Evolve scalable services (TypeScript on Bun, Python, Rust) and PostgreSQL data models for farm operations, fleet state and sensor data from AX-1 robots in the field.
Develop real-time MQTT communication for AX-1 connectivity in fields where bandwidth and reliability cannot be assumed.
Build data pipelines and time-series storage (currently InfluxDB) for fleet sensor data, feeding crop analytics and field insights.
Create secure systems for business transactions, user management and inventory.
Take part in reviews, testing and releases.
Have a say in what we build next, not just how it is built.
🌱We think you will thrive
You enjoy owning a problem all the way to the end, and following it into an unfamiliar layer instead of handing it off.
You like working close to real hardware and real users, where the feedback is immediate.
You are pragmatic about tools and opinionated about quality.
You explain your thinking clearly, in writing as well as in person.
You are comfortable in a small team where the roadmap can move quickly.
🎯You most likely have
Several years of experience building production web applications in TypeScript, on both sides of the HTTP boundary.
Solid React experience.
A real feel for relational data modelling: schemas, migrations and queries you would trust in production.
Experience building data pipelines, ideally over IoT or sensor data arriving from devices in the field.
Docker and CI as everyday tools.
Good written and spoken English.
It is a plus if you have shipped mobile apps, especially in Flutter. We also build Kilter Remote, the app on the App Store and Google Play that lets an operator drive a machine while standing next to it and alerts them when one needs attention. Experience with robotics, computer vision or geospatial data is a bonus too, but none of it is required.
🌟Why should you choose Kilter?
At Kilter, you will be part of an innovative and rapidly growing startup with global ambitions. You’ll work in a flat, open, and inclusive environment, surrounded by engaged and talented colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds. Working styles vary across the team, but we all share a passion for delivering solutions that promote sustainable food production.
We give our people the opportunity to grow and take ownership of their work. As the company expands, you will have room to shape both your role and your skills. Our headquarters are in Langhus, Nordre Follo, with parking and charging facilities for electric cars. We offer a competitive salary and the opportunity to participate in the company’s options program.
If you want to make a meaningful impact on advanced robotic products, enjoy building software across the stack and thrive in a collaborative environment alongside technical and creative colleagues, we would like to hear from you.
